International MibiNet Symposium 2026

September 29 – October 1, 2026

Welcome to the International Symposium 2026!

Microbial networking is the foundation of life on Earth - from the ancient evolution of complex organelles to the intricate interactions within global ecosystems. The Collaborative Research Center 1535 MibiNet is dedicated to deciphering the underlying molecular communication to understand, design, and control microbial networking for applications in medicine, agriculture, and biotechnology.

Held at the Kardinal Schulte Haus in Bergisch Gladbach, this symposium brings together world-leading experts and talented early-career researchers.

Our goal is to discuss the latest breakthroughs in synthetic microbiology, foster cross-disciplinary exchange, and create new impulses for the engineering of synthetic microbiomes.

The symposium focuses on the design and engineering of synthetic microbiomes across several integrated scales. Key themes include metabolic pathway engineering, host-microbe symbioses, microbial social behavior, and quantitative modeling, as well as exploring the evolutionary frontiers of microbial life.
